Serious depression leading to suicial ideations. Seriously, it is so depressing to hear that you need to do more, more, more in God's service - you can never do enough, never have good enough experiences (someone always has one better) or sacrifice enough (those brothers in Zimbabwe sitting on apple boxes in the middle of nowhere without a kingdom hall while we sit in a quickly built, expensive excuse for a place of worship).

It seems that the Pharisaical rules are applied differrently from congregation to congregation, but I believe the fact that the service was done in a funeral home allowed for more latitude. A service done at the KH has to follow the official outline. It's such a sad occasion when someone dies, especially someone well loved. Having stories from their life really helps ease the pain of the loss of life. The preachy stuff does not seem to bring much comfort.

I just love it! the way JWs have to run around to comply with the no-contact orders with DFs and DAs! It's like upsetting an antpile! You would think we had leprosy the way they act/think! And such loving concern for your pain and suffering! I am so sorry you have to make a decision on whether to keep your wife happy or stand up for a principle. ((Jourles))

This past spring a pair of crows hatched 5 babies in the top of the abandoned windmill in the neighbor's pasture. I've watched them pick up field mice in the wheatfield. They also rob birds nests of their eggs. The neighbor told us they aren't good around cattle because they will pick the eyes out of the newborn calves. Bet Hitchcock never mentioned that!! Creepy!

Coyote watch!
by mrs rocky2 inliving in the rurals has many pluses.

i just happened to be home in the middle of the day today, enjoying lunch with mr. rocky - i'm usually at work during noontime.

Hmmm, me thinks me will have Mr. Rocky drink lots of water and mark the perimeter of the yard. We also have been seeing moose tracks close to our trees. Might take care of two critters. Thanks for the ideas!

Coyotes are usually more afraid of us than we are of them. But, given opportunity and easy pickings...so while we are at home, they seem to stay away. I just worry about when I am gone to work (fortunately I work only a few hours a day). Rocky will also be working closer to home in the next week or so. So hopefully we can make a bunch of noise and keep the hungry doggies away. We're also both fairly good aim with the gun so we can shoot close enough to scare them without hitting them.

Living in the rurals has many pluses. It also has its downside. I just happened to be home in the middle of the day today, enjoying lunch with Mr. Rocky - I'm usually at work during noontime. We looked out our window and not more than 450 meters (about 500 yards) from our house is this huge coyote - in broad daylight! He (or she) was eyeballing my little flock of hens that were foraging around the yard. We lost our new kitten about a month ago, just a few days after we were letting her stay out all night long. It's not like there aren't a million little rodents to eat either. The cats have littered the yard with carcasses of field mice, voles, moles, and pocket gophers (and an occasional bird or two). I really don't want to kill the coyote, just scare it a bit so it will leave my hens and kitties alone. My peace has been disturbed!

Regarding interest in religion, regrettably IMHO, a large number of Americans have put way too much religion into politics, specifically, those who are hard core George W. supporters. It is my belief that religion should make the individual a better person, thus making the community a better place to live. Morality and religious values cannot and should not be legislatively dictated, which unfortunately seems to be the inclincation of the current US administration. I admire my Canadian neighbors to the north for being able to keep politics and religion separate.

I must admit, Canadians know much more about American politics than Americans themselves. With that in mind, we Americans are hard pressed to keep up with Canadian politics. But I feel your anger!

Honest fading a myth?
by Fatfreek inis honest fading possible?.
i've thought several times that if i had it to do over again, living in this age of jwd with all its online support and encouragement -- along with the huge resource of the internet -- that i'd have faded slowly instead of allowed the disfellowshipping because of apostasy.. on the other hand i wonder if that's all stupid speculation, wishfully thinking it would have prevented the cutting off and the shunning of the remaining family members, especially the children.. i know you'll correct me if i'm wrong on the following premise but i suspect if a person is honest, he cannot prevent the disfellowshipping -- in a great many cases.
i believe that it all depends on the vigilance of the local elders and how penetrating they are in their questions, and how perceptive they are with your answers during sheparding calls.. "um ... brother, we've missed your presence at the meetings and in the field ministry and we're certainly here to help you, but wonder if you've actually lost your faith that jehovah's earthly organization is the correct one.

I don't know how folks handle leaving the Borg without their family. Altho' I couldn't stay even if they rest of them continued. It was just way too depressing!
But more details on the family shunning business...even though we have had several years to prepare for the inevitable, it still hurts when family chooses to follow an organization blindly and write off blood ties.
My half-brother stopped talking to us when we quit attending the meetings and has not shown any interest in his nieces (his loss, I might say). My sister continues to believe that she can talk to me as long as an announcement is not made at the KH, however she never initiates contact (she'll talk to me if she catches me on instant messenger). My elderly parents...my father must set a 'proper example.' He has been the PO of his congregation until recently when my mother's health required more attention. He does not respond to e-mails and has told our youngest daughter that she "shouldn't talk to her dad." My mom is the most distressed. She won't call our house for fear Rocky will answer the phone. She calls me at work when she thinks my dad won't know and has instructed me to call her cell phone when I know my father isn't around. Being several hundred miles has cushioned some of the emotional impact of being shunned by them. Locally, Rocky's brother and sis-in-law absolutely hate us! We dragged their names into the local paper with our letter to the editor after Rocky's official DFing. Rocky's mom continues to speak to us, but closes her WT publications/Bible when we are at her home. She really doesn't have much choice. She is widowed and Rocky is the primary administrator of her finances. But the local JWs have put extreme pressure on her to turn down rides from us to town for doctoring, grocery shopping and the like. I find all of this hilarious, a bit like disturbing an ant pile!
